About the Historic Preservation CommissionA major focus of the City of Neillsville Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is to safeguard and foster civic pride in the City's historic and cultural heritage as embodied in its landmarks and historic districts.The HPC Commission was established in 1994 by the City of Neillsville Common Council. Among the duties and responsibilities of the Commission (defined in Title 1- Chapter 3 of the City’s General Provision Ordinances) it is empowered to: Protect, enhance, perpetuate and use improvements or sites of special character or special architectural, archeological or historic interest or value, as it considered is a public necessity and is required in the interest of the health, property, safety and welfare of the people. Acknowledge that such properties represent or reflect elements of the city's cultural, social economic, political and architectural history; Safeguard the city's historic, prehistoric and cultural heritage, as embodied and reflected in such historic structures, sites and districts; Stabilize and improve property values, and enhance the visual and aesthetic character of the city; andProtect and enhance the city's attractions to residents, tourists and visitors, and serve as a support and stimulus to business and industryHistoric Preservation Commission MeetingsThe Commission generally meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the City Council Chamber at City Hall – 106 W Division Street, Neillsville WI 54456.Members of the public are invited to attend and may speak on any agenda item or items relevant to the Commission.
